Meet Dave Emery

David F. Emery has worn many hats during his career. A native of Rockland, Maine, he has served his State and the nation as a two-term State Representative, a four-term Congressman, and as the Deputy Director of the United States Arms Control and Disarmament Agency during the Reagan Administration. After returning home to Maine, Dave served for a brief period as the Interim President of Thomas College in Waterville, Maine. He is a 1970 Electronic Engineering graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA.
During the time he represented Maine's First District in Congress he served on the House Armed Services Committee and became an expert in naval and sea power issues. He also sat on the Merchant Marine and Fisheries Committee where he was an active advocate for fishermen and for various environmental and conservation issues.  He served as Chief Deputy Republican Whip during the 97th Congress.

As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Dave Emery was one of several Congressmen to travel to Pakistan in the Spring of 1980 to investigate reports of Soviet use of chemical weapons in Afghanistan. Campaigning with President Reagan

After losing a race for the United States Senate in 1982, he was appointed as Deputy Director of the United States Arms Control and Disarmament Agency by President Reagan.  During this critical time, he traveled throughout the world promoting US and NATO arms control strategies, often debating with opposing groups overseas.

During the fall of 1984, he represented the United States at the First Committee of the United Nations in New York City and Geneva, Switzerland. This was a turbulent time in international diplomacy due to the tension between East and West over the arms reduction talks.  Finally, however, a great success was achieved with the removal of intermediate range weapons from Europe.

When the Emerys returned to Maine in 1989, Dave served as the Interim President of Thomas College in Waterville, Maine, and on its Board of Trustees. As President, he was responsible for devising and implementing a development plan; for overseeing and managing the overall operation of the College; and representing the College at Academic and other functions.

It was during this period following his return that Dave Emery founded Scientific Marketing & Analysis to provide public opinion research and analysis; public policy guidance and marketing strategies for businesses and interest groups; political consulting and strategy development for referendum elections and Republican candidates; and legislative and government relations. Scientific Marketing also provides support and technical services for other public opinion research firms.

Dave Emery is  recipient of various awards and honors from such organizations as the Freedom Foundation and the National Federation of Independent Businesses, and he holds honorary degrees from several New England colleges: Doctor of Law, Thomas College in Waterville, Maine; Doctor of Engineering, Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts; and Doctor of Humane Letters, St. Joseph's College in Standish, Maine.
